Juan Gabriel was born as Alberto Aguilera Valadez in ParÃcuaro, MichoacÃn, Mexico, on January 7, 1950. He had a difficult childhood and was sent to an orphanage at the age of five. There he learned music and developed his talent for singing and composing. He moved to Mexico City in 1965 and started his career as a songwriter for other artists. He adopted the stage name Juan Gabriel in 1971 and released his first album, El Alma Joven.
